I was on such an incredible path with alll of my ducks in a row.
I was doing everything I could think of to set my foundation right. I don’t want no cracks peepin in later.
I had a beautiful set schedule. I finally convinced myself and my husband that our two year old, Grayson, should do 3 half-days each week at this amazing little school. The mom guilt was enormous. Like so enormous. I’m sure you can imagine.
When he started I made sure I was productive literally every second of those three hours. They were precious, golden hours where I could focus whole-heartedly. Being in my first trimester & very nauseated, it was exhausting, trying to speed clean the whole house & try to be super mom, while learning, growing & creating this new business foundation. But I was crannnnnnnkin.
Fast-forward to now, Covid-19 in full swing. We have been quarantined for 5,734,652 days and counting. I feel so flustered & frustrated most days that I am getting nothing done. & I had this deadline to get a solid business flow going- I mean, hello, I am going to pop out a baby in t-minus 10 weeks.
Being a SAHM mom transitioning into mompreneur life is really difficult. I wish there was an easy path to take. The overwhelm gets really real & can consume you if you let it.
Here is what I have learned so far:
1. Set out a plan, but give yourself grace!
Especially during this crazy COVID-19 time, it can feel nearly impossible to stay on track in your business when you have a toddler interrupting your work flow every 30 seconds.
I swear, I think my toddler will be entertained with a movie or show and I can jump on my laptop & grind. Nope - I would say 94% of the time, as soon as I sit down, focused, ready to work, he needs something- then repeat over & over.
Insert the most annoyed, frustrated emotions ever.
It happens, but now I do my best not to expect that I can get any real super-focused work done while he is awake. If I do- score! That is bonus work for me!
2. You need to have a game plan before nap time!
The nap time hustle is real. (Although, some days I nap too, if I feel like I am burning the candle at both ends. * Feeling huge, tired and pregnant over here!)
During nap time, I can get a solid two hours of work done. It’s amazing.
Then, there are some days or even weeks where he doesn’t nap at all. That realllllly sucks, not gonna lie. That really can make my work weeks tough. Again, give yourself grace, mama. At traditional jobs, the boss isn’t constantly crying, throwing tantrums, asking you for snacks, & interrupting your focus every 5 seconds. At least I hope not. It’s a tough gig. I see you, you are doing your best.
3. Keep your positivity & business pants on
What I mean by that, is that some days (*or a lot of days) it can be easier to throw in the towel than to keep pushing yourself toward your dreams. You need to keep up with books, podcasts, You Tube videos, whatever is your jam, that pushes you to believe that you ARE CAPABLE & to keep going. It can feel like there are manyyyy obstacles you have to face.
Right now, I am seriously struggling being largely pregnant & exhausted, chasing a two year old around without my typical gallon of iced coffee. I feel like I am borderline narcoleptic, feeling like I could fall asleep at all times of the day. (*fun fact - I discovered this when I was little. I can fall asleep standing up if I really want to. :) )
In all seriousness, if you take anything away from this, I hope it is that you are wildly capable of being badass, successful mompreneur. You need to feel & believe it is possible. It will take grit, persistence & a strong mentality, but you already keep tiny humans alive all day, everyday, & that is wayyyy harder in my opinion.
YOU GOT THIS.
